I've looked everywhere! What happened to him!? He was my grandfather, born 1888, Hampstead. Last seen by my father when he was only five. So no leads after 1935/40 or thereabouts. I have no idea what happened to him. Emigrated, changed his name, bottom of the Thames?! By all accounts a bit of a "bad egg".
Very frustrating! This is one mega brick wall!

recent history is always the hardest to trace. no census etc to help in search. obviously by now he has died. but unfortunately deaths before 1915 and after 1984 have searchable indexes. between 1915 and 1984 you have to look at the death indexes quarter by quarter, year by year and search. makes it a long slog unless you have some idea of date of death

I have all information available up to 1901 census. I cant find him in 1911 census. I have already painstakingly gone through all the death records from 1940 to 1983. No trace of him. I have even visited the London Metropolitan Archives to try and unearth him. No luck. My only hope I think is that someone will recognise the name from their own research or maybe living memory.
