Default Unable to find marriage from 1890's for Thomas Sims and Agnes Green

    Hi

I am desperately trying to find the marriage for my great grandparents; If anyone can point me in any direction here I would be grateful.

I have searched the BDM listings and cannot find a marriage for Thomas Arthur F Sims to anyone, but on the 1911 census it indicates that he married Agnes Louisa in about 1898, on my granddad's birth cert her maiden name is indicated as Green. I have also got 2 of his siblings certificates just to verify the name.

I have found a marriage for an Agnes Louisa Green in to John Branagan, in 1894 I have the marriage cert. I have searched to see if she remarried but cannot find anything at all. I can only find one Agnes L Green in the census for 1891 and prior that fits her. I am at a total loss as to what to try next.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi

Do you have the DOB and where Thomas Arthur F Sims and Angie Louise Green were born. Marriage Agnes Louisa Green to John Branagan, in 1894, normally if Agnes had remarried the name on the certs you refer to would have been Agnes Branagan.

    Thanks for the reply

Thomas Arthur F Sims was born abt Sept 1870 in Birmingham to Alexander Robert Sims and Marion Sheward. I have him on every census from 1871 till 1911, Agnes Louisa was born in Clifton Bristol according to the census doc I have for her after her marriage to Thomas. The only Agnes Louisa Green I can find who was born in Bristol is the one who married John Branagan, so I would have expected her prior name on the birth certs for her children to have said Branagan (I thought thats what normally happened) but its listed as Green, I thought this might have just been an error on her part. I cannot find ANY listings for a marriage for a Thomas Sims to an Agnes, either Branagan or Green, or infact any marriage for Thomas Sims! They where both living in Manchester once married and he was living in Liverpool on the 1891 census. She was listed as a servant in Sale, Manchester. I have found all the census listing for Agnes prior to her marriage.

Agnes was born about Sept 1867 and her marriage to John B was 14 July 1894 at the Catholic Church in Altringham, I assume John was a Catholic as he was from Ireland - but thats just a guess.

I am at a total loss as to where to look next!

She had married Thomas prior to 2 Feb 1898 which is when the first child is born. It states her name as "Agnes Louisa SIms formaerly Green" on the certificate. The 1911 census also indicates that the marriage took place about 1897, (the 1911 census states the length of marriage and no of children, if any have died) so either the death for John Branagan was registered late - but I would have thought she would have required the death cert to prove she was a widow; or her previous marriage was divorced/annulled or they didn't really marry it was pretense or she committed bigamy......or maybe its an error on the transcripts and they didnt record the marriage on the Free BDM listings, I have searched sheet by sheet for the marriage and still not found anything under any of their names.

Perhaps they never did marry, it happened, and in those days it would not have done for a couple to have "lived in sin"
