Looking for any info on Robert Coombes 1841 update



Unfortunately it looks as if Robert Coombe 1841 is not the long lost brother of David Coombes. I now have some marriage details.



Marriage 21 April 1864 - District registrar Office Burwood, NSW Australia. In the presence of Edward Ingle and Ada Moffat.



Robert Coombes. c 1834 Bachelor Born in England

occ Undertaker age: 30 Residence: Sydney

father: William Coombes mother: Sophia Dudley

Father: occupation Gardener.



Eliza Hanslow (nee Tancred ) c1830.

Widow, Born in Ireland Age: 34 Residence: Sydney

father: John Tancred mother: Catherine Hart Father: occupation Butcher



Any help finding where Robert and Elizabeth were born and how they ended up in Australia would be appreciated. Also any info on the parents place of birth and if they ended up in Australia.

The only Robert Coombes born 1834 who appears in 1841 English census has head of house called Jas.

Haven't been able to solve your riddle but have gleaned the following from other sites and I hope some of it confirms what you already know or gives you some sort of a lead for further investigation.



Eliza Tancred married Richard Hanslow B: 3 June 1828 D: 28 Oct 1861 in Sydney on 22 Oct 1849 at St. Andrews. Richard was an undertaker and when he died Eliza continued with the business. It appears that Eliza and Richard had 6 children - you most probably have details of them already - if not please let me know. I found information in a Sydney burial record from 1863 which gives the name of the undertaker as Eliza Hanslow with a James Long and Robert Coombes as witnesses. So it would appear that Robert married his employer!



On bdm.nsw.gov.au there is record of the birth of a Sophia A Coombes in Sydney - Father: Robert and Mother: Eliza - Registration No. 2299/1864 - this could very well be their daughter - need to pay to receive further details/certificate. On the same site there is note of the following:-

Robert Coombes - 6029/1873 in Orange - Unknown Parents

Eliza Coombes - 2162/1892 in Ashfield - Father's name John



Deceased estates for

R. Coombes D: 14/08/1898 Sydney
