Default MAUNDER Samuel m. CARTER Betty, Farrington Gurney, SOM

Samuel Maunder married Betty (Elizabeth?) Carter at Farrington Gurney, Somerset, on 11th November 1784. Can anyone please tell me anything about their children - or about Samuel's parents? Thanks in advance.

    Hi

On 1841 census there is a Samuel b 1766 & Elizabeth b 1761 living in Martock, Somerset and both give their birthplace as Somerset. There are no children living with them which is hardly surprising given their ages.

I will look in Farrington & Martock parish records to see if I can find any baptisms for them.

This might take a while so please be patient.

    Hi again

Nothing at Farrington Gurney, but I found this at Martock

Joseph baptised 13 Oct 1805 son of Samuel & Elizabeth Maundor

Now if this is your couple Elizabeth would have been 44yrs old, now they may have lived someone where else after they married and moved to Martock and had other children. I searched on Freereg & IGI but nothing for this couple. If you want to look up the Martock transcription for yourself it will mean joining the group but it is free. Just post here and I will gladly give their details.

    Hope this has helped.

    Thanks for your help, Mavyfern!

What started this part of the family tree search is that I am trying to find the parents of Charles Staples Maunder who was born (baptised??) on the 16th January 1823 at Martock. I was told about Samuel Maunder who married Betty Carter and I thought they may have been Charles's grandparents.

Charles (1823) had a brother named Samuel Henry Maunder but he was born in 1832 on Guernsey. These two brothers ended up in America.

If Joseph (born 1805) had siblings, a brother may have been the father of Charles (1823) and Samuel (1832).

Any advice or assistance is very welcome!

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi again

Ive looked at the Martock parish records for the date you want and have found only 3 entries 1x1822 1x1825 & 1827. Now for some reason no other name is entered on these 3 entries and have emailed the site owner in case there is a fault.

Whilst I was waiting I went through the 1841 & 1851 census for martock and found these families.

In 1841 James Maunder b 1796 Head Dairyman

    Elizabeth b 1791

    George b 1821 Labourer

there was also Samuel & Elizabeth but not at the same address.

    1851 George Maunder b1801 Thatcher

    Hannah wife b1806 Glover

    Elizabeth b 1826

    Wiliam b 1831

    George b 1834

    Hannah b 1832

    Eliza b 1831

    Emily b 1836

    Louisa b 1838

    James b 1841

    Mary b 1845

There is bound to be a connection to these families as Martock is a small place.

I will get back to you hopefully with more news.

    regards

Thank you for looking that up for me. If you find more it will be appreciated. Just in the last couple of days someone else has also sent me details of the families of several "Martock Maunders".
