Thread: Date of death and burial location

Looking for the death date of a James Smith who died after April 17,1852

and before the 1861 census. 1851 census he was listed on Worsthorne with Hurstwood in Lancashire.He was born about 1801, occupation stone mason. Wife Ellen died in 1852.

Where did Ellen die



This will give a fair idea where James will be. According to the 51 Census, the family's been in Worthorne for thirty years, so I don't see him moving.

What happened on April 17,1852.... was it Ellen's death or a marrige of one of the offspring



There are 30-odd James Smiths deaths between 1852 and 1961 registered in Burnley, which covers Worsthorne with Hurstwood.( Going through the PRs is the best chance.



However, just because he's missing from the 61 Census doesn't necessarily mean he's died!!

His place of birth is Exwistle which is less than two kilometers north of Worsthorn.



This makes me think he never left the area

Ellen died in 1852 and james reported the death according to the death certificate. She is buried in St John's Worsthorne.No grave markers and unable to find church records
