Default King family of Ireland - Help please

    Hi everyone

I have no experience of trying to trace people in Ireland so can someone please help, guide/assist me in tracing Irish ancesters please?

I am looking for John & Jane King in Ireland pre 1851.

I have traced them in England in the 1851 census aged 37 and 38 respectively. John's trade is a Coalminer. The family reside in Heworth, Gateshead

In 1851 their children are -

James aged 14 born Ireland - Labourer

    Mary aged 12 Born Ireland

    Elizabeth aged 10 Born Ireland

    Jane aged 8 Born Ireland

John Aged 1 Born Gateshead, England

Noting that the children Jane was born in Ireland and John in England it would appear that the family moved to England between 1844 to 1850

Any advice or assistance greatfully received

I too have ancestors where the census just gives their place of birth as Ireland . Unless they have a very unusual name it can be very difficult to trace them withou knowing a county. Do you thin they came across during the famine? not sure exactly when that was, about 1841/42 I think.

Do you have any certs that may help with a County? but I don't think bmd's were available until 1845 for non Catholic and about 1860 something for Catholics, but I am not sure about the years. Here are a few website that are worth a read if nothing else -

also have you tried genuki? and the LDS also have a pilot search for Ireland,

The webaddress for genuki is - http://www.genuki.org.uk/ it is a useful site. Click on UK & Ireland then click on Ireland, scroll down the counties and click on information relating to all of Ireland. If you then esp click the genealogy and church records you will get good information, also Irish mailing lists and newsgroups. It can seem impossible with Irish ancestors, but all I can advise is never say never, sooner or later you may hit lucky on the family, good luck with your research I hope all goes well, when you find your elusive King family we will start on mine!! [only joking]King is a common name I have Irish ancestors with the name Kelly do keep us all informed, it would be good to have a success story.
