Hello,
I've been searching for an elusive John Amey, Butcher, who was named as a father to my Nan's half-sisters. He lived most likely in the London Marylebone and Pancras areas and from family memories might have lived/worked on Euston Road. (He'd died apparently by 1906 according to one of the sister's marriage certificates.)
I've found an entry for a possible candidate: John Amey, butcher, in the 1884 London Directory living at 3 New Street, Dorset Square NW London. So I searched for him on the 1881 Census, but couldn't locate him after putting in the name in the search thingy. However, after a bigger search on Ancestry and as I know some names are mis-transcribed sometimes, I have found an entry for a John Amery at the same address b.abt. 1847 Brighton with his family (wife Ruth, son John Wm. and daughter Margaret C. also with possibly an employee called Mary J. Newbourne, aged 17??). As I am unable to see the original page (no subscription to Ancestry), I was wondering if someone could kindly look up the original page at
RG11; Piece: 156; Folio: 123; Page: 35 and see if the handwritten name looks like it could in fact read 'Amey' and not 'Amery' and provide the full details from the entry.
This would be a great help!
Thanks!
Kind regards
Jilly
