Thread: help with charles bigelow please

i am looking for info on my great great grandfather charles bigelow he was born in new york around 1833 and died in virginia in 1864 he was married to elizabeth castner and had three children george, sarah and mary. i can not find what his parents names were or where they were from. please help!!

Do you have the City and County of his birth from any census ? There are quite a few Charles Bigelow's born in New York around that time. This information may help rule out some of them.

it was steuben county thats all i know.

The 1840 census only shows the head of each household and the number of children and adults in each age group.



There are only 2 heads of households with the surname Bigelow in Steuben County New York in 1840. One is Niram Bigelow and the other is Barney Bigelow.



Niram has no children in the age group 5-10. Therefore if it is either of these it must be Barney.

I will take another look at 1851 later. I have found a Barney Bigelow but need to check it is him as the ages do not match.

I have had another look but as the children left home and no names are known, I can't think of any way of proving that Barney was the father of Charles.

i found barney on http://rootsweb.com it turnes out he didn't have any children named charles, thanks anyway.
