    Default 1901 Irish census.

    Hi,

Has anyone got access to the 1901 Irish census? As far as I know it is not yet available on-line & the only way you can pay for it is with a postal cheque in Euros, which cannot be done in England!

I am looking for George Allen b1876 in Co.Antrim,Northern Ireland and/or his father Ezekiel Allen b1851 (Bricklayer).

    Regards

Do you have access to Mormon Family History Library where if they don't have the films you could order.

Have you tried the Mormon FHL pilot site

    http://pilot.familysearch.org/record...rt.html#p=home (free)

or the Belfast Family History site http://www.belfastfamilyhistory.com/ (free to search but pay to view)

or the Irish Family History Foundation http://www.irish-roots.ie/ (free to search but pay to view)

or the Irish Times http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/ (free to search but pay to view)

On 1911 census, I found a George Allen (age 40) living at 74 in Bridge Street (Lisburn, Antrim) with wife Rebecca -- is that yours?

    Hi,

Yes had tried all of them except the Belfast Family History site. Although I couldn't find my Allens on the 1901 census I did find one of the daughters (Mary Jane Allen) who had married Joseph Orr, so that was useful.

Unfortunately the George Allen you found wasn't my George - he had moved to London by 1911. I was actually trying to find out when he moved to England & was hoping the 1901 census could tell me if he was still in Ireland then as I cannot find him in the UK census for 1901. Not sure where his family was in 1901 as have been unable to trace his father (Ezekiel Allen) or any other members of the family. Do you know if the 1901 records are all on-line or if there's more to come?

Thanks for help - it's really appreciated.

    Regards

    Hi Coreen,

The Mormon Family History Library has the 1901 census on microfiche, it is also at PRONI.

Some other places to check if you haven't already

    1901 (Belfast): www.belfastfamilyhistory.com

    1901 (extracts): www.from-ireland.net/dow/census/belfast1.htm

1901 (parts of Ormeau, Pottonger & Victoria wards): Jean McCarthy's website

1901 (Portstewart, Portrush Urban, Coleraine): www.irishpalmers.org.uk/index.asp

Have you tried looking for him on the 1911 census in the UK?

    Hi,

Yes, I have found both George Allen & his family living in the UK & Ezekiel & his family living in Antrim in the 1911 census. Thanks for links to websites - am just checking them out now. By the way do you know how to access the family search records once you have traced the correct person or do you have to order them?

    Regards

    Coreen
