Thread: Albert Bruce Stratton

Hoping to discover who parents are for Albert Bruce Stratton. :-)



This is what I know...



Albert Bruce Stratton is my Gr-Grandfather. I know he came from Luton, Bedfordshire as it is stated on various other resources (U.S. WWI Draft Card, 1920 and 1930 U.S. Census).



However, he lists his birth year differently in each of the records. In his border crossing from Canada to North Dakota, it is 1891. In the 1917 Draft Card it is listed as 1886. In the 1920 census it is 1888 and in the 1930 census is is listed as 1891. I have a suspicion that he may have tried avoiding the draft into WWI by claiming he was older and by then, there was a wife and child.



I found a 1901 England census for an Albert Bruce Stratton that states birth year as 1891 and possibly a brother Phillip as 1888. They were children and listed as boarders (students).



I would like to find out as much as I can about Albert. I have no photos or any other information relevant to finding him in England.



Can anyone help? Any advice?

As there's only one Albert Bruce Stratton (born circa 1891, in Luton Beds) listed in the birth index, I'd say it's highly likely he's your ancestor. If he can't be found on the 1891 census with his parents, you could buy his birth cert, which will of course name them. Cert's cost £7 from the GRO, I'm not sure of postage costs to the US.

Thank you very much slizzy. I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. I will also look harder at the 1891 census and see what I can find out. The census may have been taken before the birth, but his brother would be listed. I have a suspicion that his brother (possibly) who is listed as Philip on the 1901 census may actually have a different first name. I really don't have any information to back up that theory other than I did not see him listed as Philip on the birth index for 1888. I think there was a James Philip though.
