Thread: Searching for a Liverpool birth

Hi,

Can anyone help please I am searching for a birth. My great grandma Ellen Robertson born 1883/84 in Liverpool, I have looked on the Free BMD with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have any extra info? ie parents names. If we can trace her on census records it will help. Also when/who did she marry?

Thanks for your reply, Ellen married James William Hughes December 1902 in Sheffield. I have there marriage certificate which has her fathers name as William Robertson. I also have her on the 1911 census with James William and there children. I got Liverpool as her birth place from this census.

I'm not having much luck with your search. On Ellen's marriage cert what does it say for her father's occupation, also was he deceased? Who were the witnesses?

Could this be a possibility?

N.B. Can't be this one, she died in 1882.

Thanks for reply it could possibly be Helen Mary I will get the birth certificate for that one. On the marriage certificate her father was shown as deceased and he was an upholsterer. The witnesess were James Williams sister Sarah and her husband Hartley Rennard.

I've searched the census (1881, 1891) for a William Robertson, occupation upholsterer - sorry to say I haven't found him. The nearest was a John Robertson (upholsterer, born Scotland), but there was no Ellen/Helen with him and his wife Jane, in 1891.

Thanks for your reply. My father did tell me that he thought Ellens father came from Scotland and must have moved at some time to Liverpool. I will send for Helen Mary's birth certificate it may just be my Ellen. My father who was Ellens grandson and lived with her at some time knows very little about her he says she never spoke about her childhood or where she came from. She is a very elusive character but I'll keep searching. Thanks again for your help.
