Thread: Death of John William Northcote- Help please

Hi I am looking for the death of John William Northcote.

Born Islington 1874

Married Caistor 1895

Died ??

On his daughters marriage cert in 1919 it states he was deceased.

Got him on the 1901 census, none of the family are on the 1911 and his death does not appear on Free BMD.



Any help/ideas appreciated, thanks in advance

Have you considered John might have died abroard ?

There is a John William Northcote arriving on 24 Jun 1906 in Montreal, Quebec. Birth c1874, birth place London England. Departure from Liverpool. In 1901 census if I have the right John was living in Lancashire. Perphaps he was going ahead of the family to set up home before they came out and died before they could join him.

Thanks for your reply, having read an article yesterday on multiple bad transcriptions on the 1911 i went back and last night spent a marathon checking out variants. It happened with this family on the 1881 when the Northcotes appeared as Northcaster, this time after hours of looking i found them transcribed as Northerts living in Grimsby, so i went back to free BMD and started doing approximate names for each quarter from 1911 to 1919, i got to 1918 when there were great blanks in the register. I did not realise that the death records for 1918 were not complete, so my guess is that he will be there.

I had not thought of your idea of emmigration so i thank you for taking the time to look, if he is not on the 1918 record I will investigate your leads.
