Thread: Sarah O'Hara

Hi everyone,

I would like some help with research on Sarah O'hara. She was born abt 1829 in Ireland (not sure where) and don't know her parents. She moved to Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England sometime before 1851 and married James Collins (1828).



Any help would be much aprreciated and thanks in advance!

I am sure you know that searching for Irish ancestors is a nightmare (and I have two main branches that both turned out to come from Ireland!). I was lucky and was able to find out which part both branches came from, and have managed to get one branch back to the 1700s but more by luck than anything else.



Do you have the marriage certificate of Sarah and James? That would at least give you the name and occupation of Sarah's father. There may also be another family member as a witness, as it is possible she came over with siblings. I did find the location of one of my family by doing the following:



- I found him in the 1891, 81, and 71 census - (not easy when he gave a different country of birth in all three - Scotland, Ireland and England!). In the earliest one I could find he was with his siblings. I then came forward for each sibling, before finally, in 1891, finding one sibling that gave his place of birth more fully (Limerick , Ireland). It took ages but armed with that information I was able to find the family in Limerick and go back further from there.
