Default newbie requiring harding/hewitt help please

hello there, altho im new to these boards im not new to researching my family, however im stuck on a couple that are fairly recent in my history.

the names are ernest james harding b gloucestorshire in 1861

elizabeth hewitt b burscough lancs 1876

now i know a fair deal about this couple, as they have consistantly appeared as man and wife on many documents i have, including the 1901 and 1911 cencus and lived at carr lane west derby with their kids one of which , my grand dad ernest james william harding b 1898 west derby

elizabeth consistantly uses the harding name and even states that they where married on the 1911 for 14 yrs, however i have discovered that cant be true as she was married in 1895 to a fred beaston

on the 1901 cencus their shows a fred hewitt aged 8 b west derby, living with her and ernest snr as a lodger, to much of a conincidence i think dont you?

ok so my question is this, i have n o idea of her death or what name she would have used, she has tried to hide the beaton marriage very well, so perhaps however registered any death wouldnt have know that and used the harding name?

also i have no idea of what happened to ernest snr or jnr

i would appreciate anyhelp that may come my way please

i do have a few birth and wedding certs here for answering questions from if that helps

    many thanks

    dawn

    Hi Dawn.

    The surname was not Beaston...

Marriages Jun 1895 (>99%) BEATON Frederick James Ormskirk 8b1153

    Hewitt Elizabeth Ormskirk 8b1153

This must be the little lad on the Census...

Births Jun 1894 (>99%) Hewitt Frederick Arthur W. Derby 8b549

Do you have this Birth Cert?? Maybe Elizabeth was his Mother or his Aunty? I think she was his Mother and he was born out of Wedlock? His Birth Cert might confirm the Fathers name.. Could be that Beaton fellow?

yes its looking like there are 2 of them you see i have my elizabeth living with my great grand dad in 1901 in carr lane, but im beginning to wonder if she was leading 2 lives, ok so she married this mr beaton and was with my grand dad but did she house hop from time to time? is that possible that she could have been in 2 places at once? they arent that far away the 2 houses that is around 10 miles max, then again why lie about her place of birth aswell?

The Elizabeth living with Frederick Beaton was born circa 1861, whereas your Elizbeth was born 1876, they are probably two different people.

As Frederick Arthur Hewitt was enumerated as being a lodger in Elizabeth and Ernest's household, it's very possible he isn't Elizabeth's son, could be a nephew. If he was Elizabeth's son, I'd have thought he'd have been entered on the census as either 'wife's son', or 'stepson'

well this whole thing has now been sorted out as yesterday morning i was sat having my first coffee of the day, and remebered about my dad going to the isle of man on holidays, i decided to try there for the death of my grand dad and found his death there, i then looked on 192.com to see how many hardings where in the isle of man and mde a few phone calls, bingo i got my second cousins 3 calls located 2 of them and we are now in touch and they are very happy to speak to me, and wish to maintain contact in the future.

the reason i was struggling was due to my great grand dad buying a shop and taking the name on the shop as his surname, cheaps sake!!!!! i would never have found them if i hadnt found that out from the phone calls, so this has now become a success story! 2 alive ones have been found.

As for fred he was elizabeths son, i forgot i had his certificate but also my cousins have told me that aswell. but i have found out that my ernest was also married in the glouscestor area so both my great grand parents where "living in sin" lol
