    Thank you Welshlady

This may well be Mary Jane's brother.

Using the limited access I currently have to 1881 census records, I located a Mary Jane Miller boarding in Gateshead (less than a mile from her 98 Pilgrim St, Newcastle, address of 1871). Although the birth year is 4years out, as my MJ Miller was born in 1865.

The industrial school on Jubilee Road is approx 4 to 500 metres from Pilgrim St. so I think there is a very good possibility that the parents passed away and the children split up, with the youngest James entering an industrial school

Thank you again for your kind assistance. I think I will try and locate her other siblings John, Margaret, & William. If they live in separate homes it may support the theory of a dissolved family

i was thinking along the same lines. Margaret was of an age that she could well have married eg

    Marriages Jun 1874

    MILLER Margaret South Shields 10a1008

    Marriages Sep 1875

Miller Margaret Sarah S. Shields 10a957

    Marriages Mar 1878

    MILLER Margaret S. Shields 10a697

Has anyone come across this occurence before?

I am searching the whereabouts of Mary Jane Miller in 1881 census, and although I have a few hits to choose between but nothing concrete, I decided to angle my approach and see who, in 1881, was residing at her 1871 census address of : 98 Pilgrim Street, Newcaslte Upon Tyne (All Saints). Perhaps track her parents William & Mary.

After much trying I managed to get Ancestry to give me a list of street records for Newcastle and after going thro them finally arrived at the parish of All Saints - 92 Pilgrim St then 94, then 96... but just when I thought I was home and dry the list moved onto 104. 106 etc No 98!!

Is is a common occurence the the records are, or maybe, incomplete?
