Default John MARCH, LEICESTER, World War One.

    Hello.

I'm looking into my great grandfather, John Arthur March, who fought in World War One. With the Durham Light Infantry, Northumberland Fusiliers & Royal Defence Corps. He was born on 29th May 1895 and was born in Leicester. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Take care,

    Martin

    Hi

Could you be a bit more specific please what help you are looking for? Is it about his army service, or his parents/ family etc? Thanks.

    Hi,

    If you go to

    http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/militaryhistory/

it gives guidance on finding Army Service Records of WW1.

    Hi

His medal record has survived, which also gives his various service numbers but sadly little else:

    John March,

    Durham Light Infantry , pte , 4634

    Northumberland Fusiliers 35321

    RDC 93310

He was awarded the Victory and British medals.

I also looked up to see if his service record had survived in the 'burnt records'. I found an Arthur John March, but he came from Bristol so clrealy was not hte one. I also looked under just John March, but again could not find anything so suspect it hasn't survived.

You could also try the various regimental museums and see if they could help.

Sorry I couldn't find more for you. Somerset.

Thank you very much Somerset. You've found everything that I've found but I didn't think that it might not have survived. But I'll try your suggestion of trying the Regimental museums.
