Thread: Looking for Diana Saunderson

Can anyone help with this puzzle? Looking for Diana Saunderson born in Hull, found her on the IGI with a baptism of 29 Sep 1851. She appears on the 1861 census age 9 with her parents John and Caroline. After this she seems to disappear completely! Diana had a sister Fanny b. abt 1846, she is shown on the 1851 census with her grandparents, Richard and Mary but is absent from her family on the 1861 census. I did find a Fanny Saunderson on the 1861 census as a boarder at a Ladies Seminary in Beverley, Hull but can't be certain if this is her. Fanny appears to have married a William Revell. I am beginning to wonder if Diana and Fanny are the same person, it seems strange that I haven't been able to find a birth record for her. Would be so grateful for some help.

Have you actually found the registration of her birth? I have looked on FreeBMD and cannot find her. Also was the IGI entry for her baptism extracted from the records or entered by a member of the LDS Church? The reason I ask this is because if the entry is extracted fro the records then apart from possible typo errors it is usually reliable whereas if someone has put it on from their family tree etc it could be dodgy and inexact.

No, I haven't found the registration for Diana's birth but the record on the IGI is an extracted one.

I've had a good rummage around for the birth of Diana Saunderson but cannot find her anywher on either Free BMD or the BMD Register. Nor can I find anything for Fanny. It looks as though the births were not registered.

As the 1861 shows both Diana and Fanny I would be more inclined to presume that they are two separate people. Fanny is a common nickname for Frances. As Diana is 9 in the 1861 Census it is possible that by 1871 she could have married and would be entered under her married name.

There's a Sarah Ann Saunderson birth registered Dec q 1851 in Kingston upon Hull.

i have just seen your message on here, i have a fanny saunders born 1845 hull. married william revell on the 1881 census fanny is aged 36 and william is aged 40.
they are on my husbands family tree, his grandmother frances may revell was the daughter of harry revell and dora hallhouse,
harrys father was william revell and fanny saunders. they had the following children.
susannah revell b 1869, age 14.hull east yorkshire.
harry revell b 1868, age 13, hull east yorkshire.
jane ann revell age 9, hull east yorkshire.
thomas revell, age 7, hull east yorkshire.
charles revell, age 4, hull east yorkshire.
elizabeth revell, age 2, hull east yorkshire,
harriet revell, age 1, hull east yorkshire.
these where all of the children but they had a lodger living with them he was called martin banks, age 20, hull east yorkshire.
