Thread: Trying to trace Elizabeth Evins

Hi, I've been trying to trace my great grandmother for sometime now with no luck, she was born in Hertfordshire in 1883 or thereabouts, died in 1935 in Greenwich, her fathers name was Robert, I have her marriage certificate but hoping the spelling is correct. She married my great grandfather John Walls in September 1901.

Please can you say how you know Elizabeth was born in Hertfordshire? Also does her marriage cert state her father's occupation and whether he was deceased? Who were the witnesses at her marriage?

I've been told by an aunt of mine she comes from Hertford, father was alive at the time of her marriage, occupation states Riveter, witnesses were Joseph James Walls and Elizabeth Jane Walls. These were John's brother and sister

Marriage took place in St Mary Magdalene, Southwark

"coming from" isn't the same as "born in". As you've probably already found out, there's no likely baptism on familysearch.org and no Elizabeth born 1883 +/- a year with a father called Robert and a surname resembling Evins anywhere in Hertfordshire.

There aren't many Evins in Ancestry and I am fairly certain its a mistake for Evans, of which there will be zillions.



Perhaps your great gran was born, baptised and registered with a different surname and Robert was a stepfather?

Thanks for the help, think the only way forward is to get a copy of the birth certificate to find out fathers name.
