    Default National Burial Index.. help?

Does anyone have access to the National Burial Index? I'm tying to find where my 3 X Great Grandfather was buried. He was born in Binfield, Berkshire, but died in London.

He was found drowned in the Serpentine in Hyde Park on the 27th September 1867 ~ he was visiting St Georges Hospital as an outpatient for leg wounds & it looks like he committed suicide (Aided by a bottle of Gin! now I know where I get my love of spirits from!!!).

Benjamin Crockford born c.June 1813 Binfield Berkshire, married to Sarah Anne but widowed at time of death. She was buried 13 October 1864 in Binfield Berkshire (but I'm sure they're not buried together).

He could have been taken home to Binfeld but I have a feeling he may have been buried in London. Any help or even suggestions would be great.

NBI is not comprehensive and people in London were often taken some way away to be buried.

Perhaps you might find funeral details in a local newspaper.

Can you suggest any I might try? I was given the inquest result that was published in the 'Reynolds newspaper'... I'm at a loss as to how to go about this so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Westminster Archives would cover the area where the death occured and should be able to advise on local newspapers.

Suicides were buried in unconsecrated ground.

    Hi Christine

I wonder do your NBI index cover Padiham in Lancashire. I am looking for a death of my gtx3 grandmother. She was called Jane/Jenny Webster born abt 1803 and possibly died late 1830s and before 1841. She was married to William Webster and her maiden name was Dandy.

    Thanks for your time

    best wishes

    Maggie

    Hi Maggie

Sorry I could not find anyone by the name of Jenny Webster, but I found lots by the name of Jane Webster but no one buried in the place you mention. If you can give me any more information of where they lived when the died I would be pleased to try again for you.

    Kind Regards, Christine

    Hi Christine

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to look for my elusive ancestor. Her name was probably Jane and all I know is that the Webster family lived in Padiham so I thought she might be buried there. The only other possibility is that she may have been buried in the parish of Whalley. I think she is going to be one of those ancestors who are hiding behind a very large brick wall.

thanks again Christine for your time.

    best wishes

    Maggie
