    Hi

Where was William born? Yes, I know you say Cavern, but I have a William Dunne born around the same period, in Artrea or Avara, Arvagh, Co Cavern and the family lived in Tycusker. Prior to that the family came from Cookstown. Other names in the family are Hamilton Dunn(e) Isabella - maiden name unknown. Willaim and Andrew.

Spent an interesting couple of days in Dublin last year looking through the records and need to go back to build a bigger picture.

Looking on Ancestry Soldier dealth in Great War 1914 - 1919 the following record is found.

    Name:William Dunne

    Birth Place Drumaloo, CO. Cavan

    Residence:Longford Death Date:16 Aug 1917

    Enlistment Location:Belturnbet, CO. Cavan

    Rank:Rifleman Regiment:Royal Irish Rifles Battalion:7th Battalion. Number:4497

    Type of Casualty:Killed in action

When I looked where Belturnbet is, this is misspelt, and should be Belturbet which is a townland in Cavern. I wonder if Drumaloo should be Drumalee, which is also a townland?

Apart from that I can not help, I think a trip to Dublin is on the cards!

    Brian

Enjoy the visit. If you've not been before the records are held at the Irish Life Centre on Lower Abbey Street Dublin 1. Its manned by clerks, who are as helpful as they can be, but tend not to be very interested in geneaology! You can search the records for free, but have to pay 20 euro for (I think its) 5 certificates. But they are not like certificates from the UK, they are about the size of a standard envelope.

The Parish records are held in the National Library, and they have a reseacher there who will try and point you to the appropriate area, provided they are Catholic records.

The cenus records are held the Natioanl Archives, and they have a couple of geanologist who will try and help you with other records, as there are few remainingf census records for Ireland.

While you are in Dublin do go on the tourist bus, the drivers are quite entertaining, and you need to escape and relax when you have spent time trying to chase Irish ancestors!!

I've not been to PRONI (Public Records of Northern Ireland) as I have not had time yet.

Dunn family still the main family in Drumaloor, which is a few miles from the town called Belturbet in Co Cavan. Drumlee is a different place near by.

Drumaloor is a road of the main Cavan to Belturbet road to the right of Anagh Church if you stand looking at the chruch from the road. The Dunns live on the three nearest lanes to the church.

    Hi

My brother has spoke to mum. She is not aware of any Dunn dying in the first world war. Her parents would have been around the 20year old mark at that time so she thinks she would have heard of any loss like that.

Drumaloor can also be spelt Drumalure and this spelling apears to be favoured by the family.

Mum feels the Dunn mentioned probably is from Drumalee as there is a Dunn family there.

In drumaloor church, not Anagh Church as I called it, there is a wall plack for Captain W Bell plus one for the dead for 1914-1918 war but there are no Dunns on it.

    Hope this helps

    Dave
