Default Edward & Matilda Freeman, Rochford

    Hello,

I am trying to find whether either Edward Freeman or his wife Matilda of Rochford Essex were still alive in 1841.

Could someone do a look up on that census for them please? Or if anyone has access to the PRs, for their burials.

All I know is the baptism of my 2nd great grandmother, Rochford, Essex Oct 27 1819 Jane da of Edward and Matilda Freeman a Butcher, and another child, Noah, in 1817.

By 1841 Jane, who was Jane Amelia, was married to John Scott and was living in Chatham.

    Hello,

That is brillliant. Thank you. I can't view the page because I am not an Ancestry member but at least now I have rough ages. This is definitely the right family because 9 year old Maria was living with her sister Jane and brother in law John, Scott in Chatham in 1851.

Matilda seems to be too old to have a 2 year old son James, and I wonder who Mary Scott is? For every answer found there are more questions.

Mary Scott is a common name and would be difficult to find without more info.

It shows on the 1841 Census, she was born in Essex. Did your ancestors have any connection with Essex.

    Hello,

This is the first time that I have entered Essex with my family. John Scott, who married Jane Freeman b 1819, was a lot older than his wife. He was chr in Long Melford, Suffolk in 1795, son of John Scott and Ann Cockerton.

In 1841 he had an 11 year old Mary Scott born in Kent living with him and wife Jane, who I had thought might be a product of a first marriage. Now the other Mary Scott.

As you say and I know from my research, Scott is an extremely common name, so without a miracle I will probably never know who the latter one was, or if she was connected.

Could the first child (Mary Scott) have died before 1841 and the parents had a second child and named her after her sister.

    Hi,

John Scott and Jane nee Freeman had a child, Mary Scott bap in Chatham in Aug 1840. That is from the PRs. She is with them in 1851. I am beginning to think that the 10mth old Mary Scott with Edward Freeman and Matilda in Rochford could be their grandaughter. Or, more likely, that the 11 year old Mary Scott in Chatham is a mistranscript for 11 months. Someone else sent it to me a couple of years ago, and until now I have not questioned the information, although I had thought that Jane Scott's age should be 2 years.

Is it possible for someone to do a look up for me to double check Mary in 1841 Chatham. The reference I was given looks like an LDS film and is:-

    Film NO. 306879 Pages 7 & 8

    Address The Brook Chatham Kent

John SCOTT 54 Clerk & Beer Seller Not born in same county

Jane SCOTT 20 Not born in same county

Jane SCOTT 2mths Born in county

Mary SCOTT 11 Born in county

    Hello Tralena,

Very, very helpful. Thank you. My suspicions were correct. I had a wrong transcript. Mary dau of John and Jane Scott was 11 months old, not 11 years. So that clears that up. Thanks. Now to try and find some more about the Freemans.
