Thread: Help finding Margaret May Gardner b. 1897

Hi,



I am hoping someone can help me track down my great-grandmother and her family. Margaret May Gardner was born in 1897 in Neath. According to the birth certificate her father was Albert Edward Gardner and mother Alice Maggs. Apparently Margaret had 1 brother Fred and a sister Maud. The family moved to Somerset at some point in the early 1900s.



I cannot seem to find the family on the 1901 census and cannot trace the families births, deaths or marriages.



Any help would be gratefully received.

I endorse Welshlady's suggestion to purchase the marriage certificate, as this should give the father's names and occupations.

There was coal mining in North Somerset and South Wales, of course.

Don't worry about the discrepancy of Midsomer Norton and Welton, as they are adjacent, and Farrington Gurney is just a couple of muiles away.

I think you are probably right, Welshlady, but we admit to not looking for the marriage or beyond 1901.



We only concentrated on the 1901 Census. Having the names of his brother and step-brother may make it easier to discover the family.



Having said that the birth certs for them both will give their parents names anyway.



In 1901 Albert states he's born in Wells, and Alice in Welton. Welton is a suburb of Midsomer Norton.



[This is my stamping ground having been born a few miles away.]



It was merely a process of elimination with the dates from the 1901 Census, and places of birth.



Glyncorrwg is in the Neath RD, which is the birthplace of Margaret [Maggie].



We found this as well, which ties in with Welshlady's 91 Census.

I have been made aware that Margaret May Gardner was born 1897 in High Street Aberfygni (as stated on birth certificate) so 1901 census with transcription errors seems most likely family out of the bunch! I can't explain the lack of a maud or fred - maybe I misinterpreted the information I was given



Margaret May went onto marry Albert Bernard Maidment (my ggrandfather) in Bristol in 1920. At that point Margaret lived in Westbury on Trym in Bristol.
