    Default National Archives at Kew

I have some birth Index's I would like to look up at Kew. Could you please tell me if:

    1. I can use the vol and Page number to look these births up.

    2. On the records Kew hold, would they show who the parents are or would I have to purchase the birth cert.

Also I'm having trouble finding 2 births, one abt 1884 and the other 1888 Pancras (Kentish Town, Camden). Nor can I find their deaths. I have tried Ancestry, Family Search and FreeBMD. I even took a 2 day trip to the London Metropolitan Archives in the hope of finding a Baptism or burial, but not knowing which parish the events were held, I was unsuccessful. How would I go about having better luck at Kew.

I dont live local to Kew and dread another wasted trip, so hope you can give me some tips.

    Thank you for your time.

    Regards

    Tralena

Kew does not have any further information than the indexes you already have. The original certificates are at the relevant register offices and copies are at the General Register Office (which is a separate operation from Kew). You have to buy the certs to see what is on them.

After 1910 mother's maiden names are included in the indexes which is a bit of help.

If you post the names of the births you can't find, we might be able to trace them. Sometimes babies were registered as Male or Female without being given a first name.

Thank you Starlight, I took a look and it was quite informative. I think I'll give TNA a miss for the time being.

Thank you too Jeuel for your offer of a look up. The two people I am after are:

Henry James Mason, 1891 Census has his birth as 1884 Kentish Town Middlesex, his marriage cert shows 1885, Army records as Sep 1883. I've looked for births between 1883 to 1885 with no luck. (please note. Birth Index 1a 65 A/M/J 1885 Paddington...... is NOT the correct cert.). He was last seen on the Electoral Reg in Camden 1928.

William Henry Mason. 1891 census has his birth as 1896 Kentish Town Middlesex. 1901 and 1911 Census as 1888. He was last seen on the Electoral Reg in Camden 1957.

These two are driving me nuts..

    Thanks

    Tralena

Can't see Henry in 1891. What is his relationship to William?

    Hi Jeuel.

    Henry and William are brothers.

I have attached the Census, hopefully you could see something I may have missed. I've only been able to up load (or is it down load ) two census, the 1891 & 1911. I post the 1901 on the next thread.

looking forward to hearing from you.

Sorry I'm unable to attach the 1901 Census as I have exceeded my quota.

You should be able to see the Census under the Mothers name: Emma Mason b. 1845 Waddesdon Buckinghamshire.

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed,

    Thank you again.
