Thirsk, North Yorkshire parish register lookup?

I was wondering if anyone might be able to do a baptism look up for me please?

Im after any information on Thomas Martin, born abt 1783 in Thirsk, Yorkshire. Parents names unknown. Died in Holmfirth Yorkshire in May 1851. Married Margaret Haigh in Holmfirth on 10 June 1808 in Kirkburton, Yorkshire.

Im just mainly after any details on baptism, birth and/or names of father and/or mother.

The only Thomas Martin that seems to very remotely fit the bill was ch on 8/5/1768 at Thirsk, father also a Thomas Martin, don't know if this is your chap though as the years differ a bit, no mention of a mother though, parish records usually thought women unimportant.

Thanks for the reply Pejay. Im not sure if its the correct Thomas though as the age shown on his burial record fits in with the 'abt 1783' birth year. He may have been baptised in a neighbouring parish and grown up in Thirsk, who knows. Maybe a clue to his fathers name would be through his marriage record to Margaret?

Its hard to tell from all the way down here in Australia!

Hi I do notice on the IGI all references to this couple were submitted by various people and give an approximate birth year, Whilst these records may be accurate they may be rough guesses. Death Certs are not a sure bet of someone's age either, as the person who was registering the death only knew what they had been told about how old they were, have you tried genuki? to see where the parish records are? I think some churches have their own websites too. Do you know the church? I think you definately need to see the parish records which will be more accurate. I don't know how easy that will be though.

I have just found on the family history resource file the BIVRI a Thomas Martin born at Thirsk on 9th July 1783, ch on 21st Sept also at Thirsk 1783 parents a Thomas Martin and a Mary Day.Hope this is who you are looking for

Pejay, I think we have a match.

I do know not to take the IGI as gospel, I have to keep reminding myself of that, lol

But all the information I have of Thomas Martin points to a 1783 birth/bap. Even in the 1841 census (although I am aware that they rounded down the ages).....and now with what you have found, I feel pretty sure that this is the guy! I think I'll have to order the pr from my local LDS library and go and verify the info you have given me....but I do think this is it!
