Default Help finding Ian Gilbert- Plumstead Cemetery

Hi, I was wondering if anyone out there could please help me find the grave site of baby Ian Gilbert who died shortly after birth in around 1958. He is my husbands little brother. We live in Australia and are coming to London hoping to pay our respects at his gravesite. Can someone help please? I'd be ever so grateful. And while I'm at it, can someone tell me how to get to Plumstead (assuming we find the grave there) from City Centre with train, tram, bus? Thank you!

How shortly after birth did he die? I know my ex#s elder brother died 2 minutes after birth. My fatherinlaw was in shock and his wife was given 50% chance of living, so I don't think he would have been able to arrange a burial. Not sure if hospitals at that date would have disposed of the remains.

My mil was told that her baby died before he was born. Only after her death did I find his birth and death certs. So sure there wouldn't have been a grave, or she would have been taken to it. I think in those days they thought it was best to carry on and pretend it hadn't happened.

I just thought I would make a comment here for you found your post as I am looking for info on Plumstead cemetary. Sometims a child was not given their own grave often the tiny tots were placed in a grave with another person not neccesarily a relative.

I have two child ancestors who were both placed in their own coffins but in graves with not known adults. The one I have at Plumstead was only a baby I have the receipt for his removal to the cememtary in a coffin. Family legend says that an elderly gentleman whose wife had passed over heard that the baby was to be buried on the same day as his wife. He asked my relatives if they would be kind enough to put our baby in the grave with her as she wouldnt have wanted the little one to be all alone. I can tell you it brings a tear to my eye everytime I recall this one, sadly due to this our little Bert who passed in 1903 has no gravestone and I do not know the ladies name.

I hope you are able to get the information you require and can pay your respects.
