    Default The Carey Family

    Hello everyone,

I'm trying to start researching my family's tree. I can remember a member of my late fathers family, coming to their house many years ago - something like twenty years ago!! He came to my parents house (Edward Thomas Carey & Eileen Rose Carey) in Chadwell St Mary, Essex. This chap said he had been researching the family tree for some years. But, no one can seem to recall his name. I think he may have come from east London area- possibly?

As I'm new to this site, I'm really not sure what other available information I need to give.

My late Father (Edward) had three other Brothers: Charlie(D), Arthur(D) and John and One sister Kitty.

My Mother (Eileen) had two Brothers; Tommy(D), Richard(Dikie)(D).

My Mother and Father had two sons:myself (David Paul Carey) and my Brother (Melvin Thomas Richard Carey).

My late Fathers Brother Arthur(D) married Jean, and had three children;Elizabeth, Paul and Christopher.

His other Brother Charlie married Eva, but they had no children.

His Brother John married Marrion, they had two children; A girl whose name I can't recall, and a Son Allen.

My Mums Brother Tommy had three children; Tommy, Kim, and Darren.

    Here's hoping for some news

    David Carey

May I suggest you take this one step or couple at a time.

The 2 things you don't mention which are quite important are your mothers maiden name and an idea of when these events took place.

I would start with your parents. With your mothers maiden name you should be able to find their marriage very easily. If you don't already have it you can then send for their Marriage cert. This will give you the information you need to go back further ( Hopefully )

The cert will give you ages / occupations/ fathers names etc.

The aim, I think, is to try and get yourself back to the 1901 census were tracing people and looking for clues beceomes easier.

We are all willing to help when given the information to do so

    Good Luck

    E

PS - Take a look at the FREEBMD website. It's a good place to start the search for the information you need

Now the 1911 census is available, you may only need to get back to then now.

p.s - your parents lived a couple of miles away from me

If the above birth is your mum, this could be her parents' marriage. (All this info would need to be checked)

Name: Richard J Mayo Year of Registration: 1927 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec Spouse's Surname: Cloke District: Orsett County: Essex Volume: 4a Page: 132

    Brides name Emma M Cloke.

    Hi,

thanks for all the great information! Yes, I can confirm that my Mothers maiden name was Cloke. And her Father Richard James Mayo was born in 1898.

My Mum just told me, her Father Richard James Mayo had two other Brothers William and John. But, the trail goes cold there.

My Fathers parents were Edward Thomas Carey, and he married Jane Spriggs. And that's about all I know. It'd be great to trace back a number of generations on both my parents sides. But, I've lost contact with most of my relations.

    Many thanks

    Dave

You can use Freebmd http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl to find births, marriages and deaths, but you will need to buy some certificates to get further information.

The 1911 census is available here:

http://fmpbsol.1911census.co.uk/ available on a credits basis - free to search, 10 credits to see a transcript and 30 credits to see the original household form.

    and 1901 here

http://fmpbsol.1911census.co.uk/ available on payperview basis, or you can take out a subscription (pricey, but you do get access to all censuses 1841-1901, bmd indexes, WW1 service records and lots of other stuff).
