    Default Lady Margaret Vane 1751/58

Can anyone look up the Parish register for Barnards Castle, Durham, for the birth of Margaret Vane, daughter of Henry Vane, said to have been born during the 1750's. Most likely DOB was 1758.

As Barnard's Castle is both a castle and a location, I would like any information about any Margaret Vane registered in the Parish.

From Australia, the Land Down Under, with appreciation and thanks.

Hi There.. The Vane family lived in Ruby Castle... Have you ever Google searched? Rootsweb have a board so maybe you should ask for a lookup.

British Nobility is the board to address your search...

    Good Luck

She appears to have been disowned by the family as she shacked up with a commoner in Thomas Cooper. We don't believe there was ever a marriage. Thomas was believed to be the Coachman for the Vane family. They had one son that we know of, Charles Cooper born probably about 1773 in Wiltshire England. He was convicted of horse theft and sent to Australia for life. I still wonder if this was a set up by the Vane family to get rid of him.

Margaret's father was the GGrandson of Charles Stuart (Charles II) and his main mistress Barbara Villiers. Their son Charles Palmer Fitzroy married Anne Poultney and had a daughter Grace Fitzroy, she married Henry Vane and one of their children was Henry Vane who married Margaret Lowther. Margaret Vane was their daughter. This Henry was the 2nd Earl of Darlington born 1726 died 1792. There were 3 other children Grace Vane 1757, Elizabeth Vane 1759 and William Harry Vane 1766 who was the 3rd Earl and created Duke of Cleveland in 1833.

Charles Cooper is linked to my family through the Byfield and Nipperess families mainly. But my father's mother was a Cooper who came from Kent and immigrated in the 1840's to the Maitland area. There is family history that they were related to someone from a Big House and I believe this may have been Charles Cooper although I have not been able to make the link yet with the 2 Cooper families. Still looking though.

I have a very extensive tree for Charles Cooper's family in Australia.
