Thread: Merchant Navy

Please can anyone tell me if all Merchant Navy records are held at Kew and if not where are they? This is for a friend who has just begun researching, she has been told that the records will contain a description of her ancestor and a photograph. Is this true?

Hi Chrissa,

Southampton Records Office also has a lot of Merchantmen's records, as does Liverpool. Just put "southampton/liverpool records seamen" in your search engine and it should come up with the right sites. These are the URLs but they are a bit long

Re MN Records, in my youth they used to be held in CARDIFF but maybe that was just because of WW11
