Thread: Help/Advice required, Edward Leslie Connor & Joan Atkinson

Hello!

I'm trying to find as much information on my grandfather Edward Leslie Connor but i'm not really getting anywhere, his d.o.b. was 11 dec 1911 but i don't know where, the only entry i can find on ancestry.co.uk is his death in 1989, i know he had 4 brothers and sisters Sidney and Winifred who were older and Irene who was younger, plus an unknown brother, i also know he was married twice, firstly to Joan Helen Betty Atkinson(possibly in Hanwell), but i don't know the year, most likely around 1945, they had 2 children Janet(mar 1947) and Diane(mar 1949) his wife Joan died giving birth to Diane in 1949, he remarried after, i think to Kaye Stapleton, this would have been in the 1950s, i think he would have lived in Hanwell/Greenford from the 1940s onwards at least, with all this information what would be the best way to proceed in my research and why cannot i not find entries for some of the information i have where i have specific dates? Any help would be most welcome!

If you are certain about the dates, either the information has been misindexed or the names are not appearing as you expected them to. Perhaps his brothers and sisters had a different father and therefore a different surname.



I'd start by getting his death cert if you are sure its him. This will give his last known address and also the name of the person who registered the death - it might be a sibling. You can then trace his address back through the electoral rolls/phone directories.

How sure are you about his date of birth?

According to Ancestry death index Edward Leslie Connor who died Nov 1989 in Hillingdon was born 11 Dec 1919 not 1911.

Mother's Maiden Surname:Amer

Jan Feb Mar 1920 Brentford Volume Number:3a Page Number:286



Brentford is close to Hillingdon. A baby born in Dec 1919 could very easily not be registered until the beginning of 1920.



Can't see a likely Connor-Amer marriage but if you get this cert you will have both parents' names.

Jeuel, i did have the date wrong, i have no idea why i had putting 1911 as the year of birth and not 1919, but i do believe the entry you found t be the correct person, Thanks!



Kimmy, thanks again for your input, i believe the people you found to be the correct ones also, i did find an old service record from World War One online last night for an Arthur Connor and his next of kin is a Priscilla Amer and their children Winifred, Albert(the unknown brother of Edward!) and Sydney, all with their dates of births!!



I believe i've also found the entry for my grandfathers second marriage, the name was Carrie Stapley, not Kaye Stapleton as i had believed!
