I have two families in my tree which are both missing from the Censuses. I have tried looking under as many variations of the names that I can think of in case there has been a mistranscription and quite frankly I am fresh out of ideas.
My gt gt Grandfather John Boulton was born in 1831 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, son of Edward Tugwell Boulton and Mary. Someone very kindly found the entry for his baptism on 11 March 1832 in the Gloucestershire Parish Records and the record gives Edward's occupation as Brewer although on John's first marriage certificate in 1860 it says that Edward's occupation is Gentleman, and when John married again in 1874 the occupation was Tutor.
I have found an Edward Tugwell Boulton living in London but he was born Stow on the Wold in 1823 and is, I think, my John's oldest brother. I even sent off for his 1849 marriage certificate and it gives his father as Edward Boulton occupation Brewer (deceased) but the word deceased does not not appear on either of John's certificates.
I cannot find either John or Edward in either 1841 or 1851 and neither can I find their parents Edward or Mary and siblings Alfred (1829) Mary (1824) Charles (1828). I do realise that it is possible that both parents had died before 1841.
My other missing family are the Archers Thomas and Martha nee Hyatt (Hiatt) In 1840 when their daughter Anna Maria (Annie) was born they were living in Fisher's Court, Cheltenham but by 1843 when next daughter Mary Ann was born they had moved to St Marys, Southampton. They also had an older daughter Jane born Cheltenham 1835. Thomas was a plasterer by trade but again I cannot find Thomas and Martha in any Census nor can I find their daughters until 1861 when Annie is in Liverpool and Mary Ann is back in Gloucestershire.
If anyone can help in any way I would be soooo grateful
TIA
Emeltee
