Thread: Look Up Required Please for Ellen Mary HITCHINGS (Born approx 1894)

Hi everyone



Just wondering if there is someone out there who may be able to help me.



I am just wanting to know more information about the following person who is my great-grandmother on my Mum's side of the family, in particular details of when she was born and when and how she arrived out to New Zealand (and if she arrived with anyone):



Ellen Mary HITCHINGS (believe her middle name was "MARY")

• Born: Approx. 1894 (based on her age at her death - believe she was born in Scotland - possibly in Galashields).
  
• Married: Thomas Edward NICHOLSON on 10 July 1918 (unsure where yet but suspect it could have been in Dunedin, New Zealand. Her husband was born in Lee Stea, Otago, New Zealand)
  
• Died: 10 October 1983 in Dunedin, New Zealand
  
• Ashes Buried: in Andersons Bay Cemetery in Dunedin, New Zealand - Block 64, Plot 8
  

Ellen and Thomas had the following children together:

• Gladys (think her middle name was “May”) NICHOLSON (unsure as of yet if she married and/or had any children). Born: 1919 in Dunedin New Zealand and Died: 10 February 1967 in Dunedin, New Zealand aged approx 48. Once again I need to confirm these dates so possibly these are not correct.
  
• Desmond Edward Nicholson: Born 1920 (need to confirm this though – and unfortunately that is all I know. My family thinks he is possibly still alive.)
  
• Ivan Thomas NICHOLSON (born 28 December 1925 in Dunedin, New Zealand and died on 02 October 2008 aged 82. Details are definitely correct. He was my grandfather). He had 3 children with his wife, Elizabeth Zelda AULD including my mother. Elizabeth died in Dunedin, New Zealand on 12 December 1997.
  

My family believes that Ellen had Raymond with another man. But it could have easily been I suppose one of the other children she had that I mentioned above.

These are the only ones that I can find, too. Name of Hitchings only seems to appear on English records.
