Default Trying to find Job Halliwell's Birth or Marriage

Desperately trying to find any records of either a birth or marriage of Job Halliwell.

I know that he was born in Allington, Debighshire, Wales in 1830.

I know that he married a Jane (Davisson????) some time between 1851 and 1861 (when he died).

Logically there should be a marriage certificate as his son (William) mother is listed as his aunts sister-in-law on the 1861 census.

His birth, happening pre 1837 is difficult to find.

Any help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I seem to have hit a wall with Job Halliwell.

    Thanks

I can't see Job Halliwell in 1851 but there is a Job Holliwell, whose birthplace is given as Gresford, Denbighshire.

There's no Allington listed on the Denbighshire parish pages on Genuki but the Gresford page says that Allington became part of the new parish of Rossett in 1840.

Gresford parish records have been transcribed by the Clwyd Family History Society. There are also microfilms of the parish registers and Bishops Transcripts at the Denbighshire Records Office in Ruthin and the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth.

1861 census shows William Halliwell also born Gresford (mistranscribed as Grepford).

He is listed as son of head of household, who is Margaret Halliwell, widow. The eldest child is Emma, aged 12 (born abt 1849).

So this can't be the same lot.

Have you got the ref for your William Halliwell?

His Wife Jane lived with sister-in law (I think) Margaret at

    Cottage Cox Lane

    Allington

    Denbighshire

    Parish of Rossett

Margaret Halliwell head of family W 41 Poor widow

    Emma daughter 12

    Hannah daughter 7

    Edward son 5

JANE HALLIWELL sister in law M 34 Lodger

    Hannah HALLIWELL daughter 3

    WILLIAM HALLIWELL son 1

    all b Gresford Denbighshire

    RG9 4277 4 1

I found evidence of his birth:

    Gresford Parish Registers.

Job Halliwell s/o William and Anne, labourer of Allington.

    Born March 27th 1830 bapt April 11th 1830.

These are all the children entered for William and Anne /Ann of Allington,

    1811 b March 8th Joseph

    1812 b Dec 19th Charles

    1814 b Nov 5th William

    1816 b Nov 27th Hannah

    1820 b Apr 10th James

    1823 b July 12th Edward

    1829 b Apr 14th George

He died in 22 Aug 1861 in Kyffin Square Deanery Bangor.

He is listed in the 1851 Wales census as:

    1851 Glanrafon Llanferres.

Job Halliwell unm 21 house servant b Gresford

Head is Henry Potts aged 40 landed proprieter born Chester.

The only Job Halliwell that married between 1851 and 1861 was :

Halliwell Job Ashton under Lyne 8d 728

    Marriages Dec 1856 (>99%)

    Hallawell Job Eastry 2a 1194

    Marriages Dec 1861 (>99%)

    None to a Jane....

Thanks for the interest that you have shown.

Looks like he may never have married or it was not registered....

The key I think is finding william's birth certificate.

Unfortunately there is no william born in wales in 1860 only 1857 (wrexam).

I understand now! I was misreading William as Margaret's son!

OK. I have a gt grandmother who definitely married between May 1879 when her 1st husband died, and 1881 when she turns up on census with 2nd husband but I can't see it in the GRO indexes.

I guess you will have to check the relevant parish marriage registers when you can.

1861 Welsh census has a William Halliwell b 1857 living in Denbighshire with parents William and Anne so clearly that's the registration you found. Quite possibly father William is the one baptised 1814 and therefore brother to Job.

Thank you all for any assistance and information that you have provided.

    William C Halliwell's was married 2 times:

Sarah Ann Bromfield 19th October 1886 in crewe.

Mary Davenport 11th April 1896 in crewe.

I have both marriage certificattes which both list Job Halliwell (butler on one and groom on the other) as williams father - deceased.

Now Job Halliwell in wales is the only job who was a butler/groom and is the right age.

Somewhere in parish records exists William Charles Halliwell' birth or Job Halliwell's Marriage.

These two I desperatley seek but being in Australia I have to rely on the kindness of strangers to find out for me as they are not on line.

Previously I had ignored job as the father and followed william c halliwell born in wigan to his father and then his father etc back to 1700.

Now I am stuck with Job/William and would love the proof.

    Thanks once again !!

there are actually two william halliwell births in wrexham in 1857

    Births Mar 1857

    HALLIWELL William Wrexham 11b319

    Births Sep 1857

    HALLIWELL William Wrexham 11b285

however he should then have been 4 and older than hannah on the 1861 census

Yes I saw those two in 1857 and had to reject them as he would have been 4 in 1861, it also makes him older than his reported age in 1881/1891/1901 census, his two marriages and his death.

Could one of these two be 1860 and not 1857? (transcription error?).

Do you know the parents of these two?

Maybe there is a record of his sisters (hannah - 1858) birth in parish records that I couldn't find in the BMD that might list Job/Jane ?

If these children were illegitimate then maybe they were never recorded ?
