Can anyone tell me how I can obtain the original birth cert for a family member in there late 70's. Would I have to go through the same process as, say someone in their teens and have to involve social services etc?

Hi Greenman
If you know the person's full BIRTH name you can find it on the BMDs. I have obtained one for a cousin of mine, but yet to find him do not know his adopted name

Hi, my mum requested to know details of her adoption. We phoned a number and was asked if we wanted to seen locally , which we did. We phoned them and had to wait ages for meeting, i am talking 3 months. Then we got her parents names and the form to send off for her proper certificate. Then there was another meeting again a long wait but this time it was to do with writing up the report of her reasons for being adopted.
Although we didn't want to involve/go through a social worker it can be useful. She only asked mum what she had been told about the adoption and how she had fared in life so far, nothing intrusive its just to make sure that you'll be okay with what you are going to hear.
My mum was 58 when this started.
So its best not to waste time and phone them for the first visit.
