    Hello Adyday

If you mean the Henry Carpenter at the bottom of page 14 then he was a Builder's Labourer.

    Hope this helps.

Edited to say that I've looked at the address in 1881 of Henry Carpenter and I can't make it out either. The transcriptions from Familysearch gives Our House and on the scan I have access to it looks like Our Hs - might be Oak Hs or Cur Hs though.

I've found this document http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stephen...l/street_h.pdf published online by a Stephen Pomeroy (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stephen.pomeroy/), which is a street map and house name guide to Portsmouth and area.

If you look at page 21 then Highland Road has an entry for ?Our House. So the other transcribers and I seem to have been correct with our guesses.

This pdf might also be a helpful resource for you if you have other Portsmouth/Portsea rellies.

thanks for all your help I will have a look at the links. A lot of the Portsmouth streets and roads are in the same layout now as then. There is also a Highland road cemetery. So a day out in Portsmouth is beckoning. I will have a look at the Hampshire group as well. I find the migration of people for work puposes during the periods I have been looking at quite fascinating. From Mid 1800's right to my own Day family who came down from Sheffield during the late 1920's , because of the Great Depression ( Credit crunch with a difference

    cheers Ady
