Default anyone have access to Canadian marriage records? ~1870

I was wondering if someone could look up the marriage of Samuel McLaughlin and Emma Keese in Canada, around 1870. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly where they lived I just know it was in Canada. I'm actually trying to find Samuel's parents' names (or Emma's) and someone told me marriage records might be a good place to look. Samuel was born at sea from Ireland around 1851 and Emma was born in Vermont around 1852. I'm not sure about the spelling of Keese either. (pronounced "Keys")

Thanks to anyone who can help

Hi, if you could find out which province they were marreid in it would be very helpful. Each province has there own archives and handles marraige/death certificates. I am in Newfoundalnd.

    Cheers

I will ask my grandfather if he knows, or see if I can find it, and I'll let you know - thanks.

    In the 1852 Census Canada East (now Quebec) / Missisquoi (county) / 220 St. Armand parish / p. 21d, 22a, (47)

There are the following entries. The one-year-old might be your Samuel.

Nothing definite, of course, but something to keep in mind.

McLaughlin, James Labourer b. Ireland rel.Protestant age 43

McLaughlin, Mary b.Ireland rel. Protestant age 39

McLaughlin, Fancy b.Ireland rel. Protestant age 5

McLaughlin, Samuel b.Canada East rel. Protestant age 1

I looked at later censuses, but don't see any Samuel with wife Emma. Could Emma have died and Samuel remarried by 1881?

    hth,

    Carmela

Thank you so much I'm almost positive that is them - Samuel's middle initial is J. and my grandfather said he thought that his father's name might be James, but he wasn't sure. Actually, they moved to New York around 1875 - they were in the NY census in 1880. I was hoping to find the marriage record for their parent's names, but also to verify that Emma's maiden name was Keese/Keyes/Keys, because I haven't found her other than in censuses, married to Samuel. But now that I if this is them then I now have the province, so that will make things easier.

    Thanks again

According to the 1852 census, it was probably in Quebec.

Thank you to both of you for helping me.

    Hi

Try typing 'Drouin collection' on your search engine, this will give you access to church record in Canada

Sorry, but this is not correct. The Drouin Collection is only available online,

if you subscribe to Ancestry.ca or have a Deluxe World membership. You can search without subscribing, but you won't see dates or places, just names and you do not have access to images of parish records.

The Drouin Collection contains only Quebec and some Acadian French records, not those of the rest of Canada.

If you live in Canada, you may have access to the library edition of Ancestry at your public library. That being said, I did a quick search at my local library this afternoon, but failed to find any record of a Samuel McLaughlin marrying an Emma Keese or any Emma with a surname resembling Keese or Keys. Perhaps they married in Vermont or New York State. I did not have much time, so I could have missed it. If no one else finds it, I'll try again next time I go to the library.

    Hi Tony,

I take it you mean that you are a registered user of Ancestry.com, not a paying subscriber? The Drouin Collection was available free for a couple of months when Ancestry first introduced it; unfortunately, it is no longer free.

You can no longer gain access to the images of the handwritten registers unless you pay for a subscription.
