i hope someone can help!?
I am trying to find out where I can find records of anyone who got married while in the Army. I am looking in particular for 1914 -1920 and also in a Scottish Barracks, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello
I think that the only Army record you will find is a change in the next of kin recorded on the person's Service Records. Servicemen's marriage records for UK would be the same as any marriage, ie in the Civil and Church records.
I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you very much for your reply.
I thought as much. I'll just need to keep searching, but hitting a "brick wall" with one family member.....maybe I'm not meant to find out anymore.!
Thanks again![]()
Army service records for WW1 often give marriage details and are available on Ancestry, but they aren't complete.
Technically a soldier had to request permission to marry by writting a letter to his CO.
I'm sure that this was not always done, neither do I think it likely that such a letter would be put in his P file. Even if it was it would most likely have been later thrown out.
This goes way back, I guess it was a measure to restrict the number of wives and chldren following the Army around in the baggage train. Also if it was a privillage to marry it woud be a prek to be earned. The practice however even today is notionally in existance.
