    Default 1871 census name transcription

    Hi folks,

I wonder if any of you have a better eye for translating scruffy handwriting that I seem to have.

I've been tracing a Mary Swinburn/Swinbourn b 1787 in Lincolnshire, England. Found her in Arden Road, Aston, Birmingham 1871 living with a daughter, Maria & grandchildren Harriet & Clara, twins aged 19. I'm having difficulty in deciphering Maria's married name. It has been transcribed as Maria Buske, but I don't think that's right. Can't find the daughter or her children/husband on any other censuses.

Have tried Buske, Benton, Burke, even Tranter, Trenton - no luck.

    reference is: 1871 RG10 Piece 3160 Folio 126 page 19 roll 839237.

    Can anybody please help ??

    many thanks,

    Birmite

    Hello Birmite

I have found a family in 1861 280 Garrison Lane ASton Warwickshire 'Burke'

Father John 56 children Emma 17, Robert 15, Sarah 12, and Clara and Harriet 9. But no mother it does'nt say he's widowed.

Do think it might be your lot.

Thank you both so much - I don't know why I couldn't find them under Burke.

I'm not yet certain these are my people, but they look very likely indeed - gives me a great place to start.

Like you, I wonder who Mary is the mother of? .... no doubt I'll find out eventually,

    cheers both,
