Hi, I'm new here and trying to find my way around but this seems like a good place to start.
I just started my family tree a little while ago and I have come to a brick wall. My grandfather told me a story of his grandfather (I think..) named Samuel McLaughlin, who was born on a boat coming from Ireland to Canada. He later moved to New York, after having children in Canada. His wife was Emma Keyes and their children were Millie, Berkley, Frances, Guy, and Flossy. I was able to find Millie's birth and death date and then used that, as well as her parents names, to find them in the 1880 census, at family search.org.
This is the census of their household. http://www.familysearch.org/eng/sear...=1&frompage=99
Clearly looks like a match to me, but the problem is I have no way of finding Samuel's parents' names. Also, I don't know if they both came to Canada, or just the mother. Any suggestions as to how I would look this up? Or if anyone has any info, I would appreciate it. As shown in the census, he was born in 1852.
Thanks so much for any help you can offer.
