I am trying to find my Grandfathers parents dont know much,



His name is George Hughes not sure if welsh or english Born in the late 1800s his children were George Edward Hughes born in Stoke on Trent and another son Robert Could you help

If you don't know where he was born or when I don't see how you can find him. You will need to start with what you know and work backwards, using censuses and certificates until you can be sure you have the right line.

I think that the easiest way to solve this is:



purchase one of his childrens birth certificates.....that will give his full name and mothers maiden name.



search for a marriage of this couple: purchase this marriage certificate: this will give you ages of bride & groom...also both Fathers will (should) be listed and their occupations.



This will then give you a firmer base for going backwards in your tree. Without the proof of certificates, you may end up following the wrong line with such a "common" (no offence) surname
