Thread: MANSFIELD BURIAL

I have a brickwall with my 3x Great Grandfather William BLYTHEN.

b: c1830 I have no idea of DOB or birth place and this is the info I need to continue this line.



He was married to Susan (Susannah) Mowbray in Mansfield Parish Church, Nottingham 22/10/1855 and their children were baptised there too. Susan was baptised in Weston, Nottinghamshire in 1834. Their children have her maiden name "Mowbray" as middle names.



William's death was AMJ 1859 Mansfield 7b 74.



If anyone can get access to the Mansfield burial records to see if he was buried there it may give me a DOB, or birthplace, or if anyone else has any other suggestions etc I would be very grateful for help.

Hi Ruth, is this Susan in 1871? If so it would seem her children were born after William's death.

If you send for william's death cert. it will give his age at death.

It looks like she did have 2 children within marriage

1861 at 85 leeming St Mansfield livig with mother Charlotte mowbray 51, and siblings Thomas 28, Sarah 22 and Eliz 11 is Susan Blythan widow 26 with her children Sarah 3 and james 2



The marriage cert would help find william's age and his father too

This is great, thank you. It is def Charlotte and Susan, so I will check out those censuses. Your info has produced a daughter I didn't know they had - Eliozabeth. Not sure who Mrs R M Blythen, Albert & Julia Blythia are though. I'll have a look.

I think Elizabeth is Susan's sister???

It's not Mrs R M Blythen - but is transcribed as Drs R M Blythen -as Slizzy quoted



Looking at the image - which is very difficult to read - it could possibly be Wm R M Blythen - age 12 described as Grandson (to Charlotte) -so he is possibly Susans son.

Just looked through FreeBMD and this looks like the birth regs for the children on1871

Elizabeth is Susan's sister. I now have her info. The one with William's is the one I really wanted - that's great.

Albert and Julia were born after William died, so they were either nephew and niece or, Susan remarried. I'll check her marriage records. Doubtful that she did- but I suppose I should never assume!

I've looked at the census.



The "Drs" is John Robert James Mowbray Blythen, my GG Grandfather.



I still don't have anything for his father, William, which is what I need.

I think that I'm going to have to order the death Cert to get his age, and see what I can guage about his place of birth from that.
