Thread: Charles Maynard born c. 1873 in Nottingham

Could someone please help me to locate this birth!



I've tried BMD indexes but there is nothing. Census returns but he only appears on the 1901 census nothing before that.



His father is described as John Frederick Maynard (photographer) on his marriage certificate.



His full name is Charles Edward Maynard.



Any help is much appreciated. I've been up against this brick wall for over a year now! Very frustrating.

Try looking for his/his father's death, and trace back. If he was on the 1901 census you have a starting point. You have a profession to work with. Try tracing photographers locally. If there are siblings, go that route first and look for connections. Try the 1911 census. Look at the 1881 and see where his father was. You have many options, but need to think "outside the box".

I have exhausted all census possibilities... I've tried locating the bmd of both Charles Edward and John Frederick but there are no such individual. I've searched for John Frederick from 1841-1911 but there is nothing.



The problem I have is that before his marriage their is no reference to Charles Maynard and the only refernce to either of his parents is his father's name and profession; again ascertained from Charles' marriage certificate.



The added complication is that Charles' was a proffessional juggler and magician whose stage name was Paul Vandy. I have a wealth of information about Charles/Paul after the turn of the century (1900) but unfortunately nothing substantial prior to 1896. Further, there is family rumour (unsubstantiated) that Charles Maynard may have changed his name at some point following the start of his career.



Any help in locating John Frederick Maynard (photographer) or Charles Edward Maynard (born abt. 1873 in Nottingham) is much appreciated.
