    Default One last try...............

As many of you already know, I am trying to find out what happened to my gran dad after he returned to England in 1920..........or if he really did return that is........I do have a passenger list from 1920 with the correct name age , countries but the occupation is different from that which every other document states up to 1919. All proceed docs list occ as spinner 1920 PL says ship builder, but I supposed that was possible as I dont think that cotton was a huge thing here in Montreal.

From information on the passenger list for my grand mother and father returning to canada 1927, i am told that my grandfather was living here in Montreal, yet when I searched the montreal directory for the address it didnt exist.

I have searched the lancashire bmd, free bmd, igi indexes , ukbmd , but have come up empty handed for a death.

i am really unsure if my grand father actually returned to England, or if he came back to canada,

I have no clue whether he and my grandmother were together after she returned to canda in 1927.

actually I am unsure about a lot of things at this point, expect for my grandfather coming here in 1913 and marrying my grandmother in 1914, and about my dads birth in 1917, I have documentation for all this.

I dont know what happened between my grandparents or if my father ever saw his father again after coming back to canada, but a huge piece of me wants to find out what happened to this man, especially where and when he passed away.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

JAMES SLATER CHADDERTON, born 1891 Farnworth, bolton lancashire, to john and ellen chadderton nee slater

    Arrived canada 4 july 1913

returned to Uk 8 nov 1920

did he came back to canada before 1927??/

place and death of death totally unknown !!!

    Kind Regards Brenda

Have you looked for a Canadian death? Do you have your grandmother's death cert? How does it describe her? UK death certs for women state whether they are wives or widows, which might be a clue in tracking down his death.

If he died in England its possible he lived to his 90s so that's a lot of years (and 4 quarters to each year) to check for deaths.

Hi Helen, As of yet I have not tried searching for a Canadian death as its only recently that I found out that he MAY have returned to Canada sometime before 1927,I still cant find any proof of that , and I searched the Lovell Directory for Montreal up to 1940 and cant find an 1859 Jacques Hertel Street ,it skips right past that number.

Concerning my grandmother, and this is where it gets diffucult, sometime after 1927 and before 1930, she changed her surname as well as my dads to PONTING,which was the surname of the man she lived with until 1963 ,she died and is buried her in Montreal with the Ponting fellow.

I even tried contacting the pension place in the UK to find info concerning either of my grandparents, but they will not release any info to a third party.

Told ya this was a brickwall !

    Kind Regards, Brenda
