Thread: Birth look up please

Hi all

Thanks to the release of the 1911 census ive just confirmed a marriage of an ancestor.

In 1911 she was in St Marys Hospital, Manchester. As Sarah Emma Gregory (nee Portman).



Would somebody mind checking for a birth for me on anything other than free bmd.

I think she may have had a daughter Marion in 1911 in Prestwich Lancs.

On free bmd the mothers maiden name is Pottor.

The maiden name im looking for is Portman.



Im presuming she was in hospital to have a child (may be wrong). Really hoping somebody may be able to help.

On the actual image the entries are typed and mum appears as Potter.

The only thing I can suggest is to purchase the birthcert for Marion. And Sarah Emma's to establish her parents!!

At £7 a throw it shouldn't break the bank!!



Remember entries are only as good as what the transcriber sees!! It could be from the original certificate to the huge tomes that used to adorn Somerset House, or it could be from that to the typing, or there may not be an error at all. Errors abound.

I have her in all the census now and just found it strange that she didn't have children.

Marion was a guess with her being in hospital in 1911 i thought she may have been in there to give birth. Also marion was the name of her younger sister who died at 8months old.
