    Default adopted granny!!

hello im trying to find out any info i can on my granny, mary tennant.she was adopted as a baby in scotland,in 1906.her adoptive parents didnt think they could ahve any more children but actually went on to have 3 of their own.john,1907,alex,dob unknown, adn emily around 1908.

i dont have a forname for her adoptive father but teh mother was called mary ann richardson tennant.

my granny married william montgomery and lived in loanhead scotland until she died in 1978/80.

i have just found out some more info on above.

mary allan richardson stewart dob....14/112/1906 in edinburgh

father listed as unknown mothers name:mary jane stewart a domestic nurse.

i find it strange that marys adoptive mother also had the name richardson!

    Hi Posh,

The name Richardson is probably a surname of a relative. It was quite common for alot of scottish people to use surnames of grandmothers or grandfathers as a middle name for thier children, my husband has his godparents surnames as his middle names and his mother's middle name was her grandmothers maiden surname.

    Regards

    Lyne

Your welcome, your right though, allan is most probably another surname of a relative somewhere down the line.

There seems to be alot in my hubbys family that have surnames as middle names, I havent a clue why they did it maybe it's something to do with remembering a particular part of your family and ensuring the name lives on.

    Regards

Ah a puzzle indeed and I know where you are coming from on that. A couple of years ago my hubby was contacted by a cousin he didnt even know existed. Well he kind of hoped he had cousins out there as his mum never spoke about her family except to say she had a brother and a sister. Anyway turns out my hubbys aunt is alive and has three children of her own, one of whom contacted us and told me that my hubby and his brother may have an older half sister.

To be honest I,m not to sure if we kind of want to rock the boat and find out if they do possibly have a sister but it adds to my puzzle with my hubbys family who funnily enough are stewarts.

i know, every family seems to have twists and turns.ive been trying to find out about my ex husbands dad for our children but his mother used to say he was one mans child but when he got his birth cert for our wedding it did have that mans name on it but he,my ex didnt have a surname!then just after his mum died someone told him he was actually the son of his mothers cousins and that she lied and said he was this other mans son!all very complicated.

but gettin back to teh scottish side, ive been finding them teh most complicated of all!good luck with your own tree.
