    Default Finding Emily Winifred Taylor

    Hi,

I was wondering if someone would be able to help me try and track a relative down. I have a gt-gt-grandma called Emily Winifred Taylor born about 1866 in Banbury, Oxfordshire. I know that at some point as a child she had to move into an orphanage. I don't know when this happened but I can find her in the 1881 census as working as a servant to a household in Richmond, Surrey but for the 1871 census when she would be about 5 or 6 I cannot seem to find her. I was wondering if anyone else could?

She had some brothers and sisters but we are unable to discover any names to help in the search, we also don't know her parents names.

the emily in the message above born brampton is in the 1881 census as a nursemaid in brampton . you have found emily in richmond as a servant born banbury so it isnt the same one.

as there are a few emily's around you probably need to get her marriage certificate to get fathers name to be sure. who did she marry?

Hi, and thanks for you help My Emily married Joseph James Adams in 1887 in London. I have Emily down as dying in 1949 in South East London, we thought her death would have been registered in Lewisham but I think I've found her as passing away in Bromley (now Greater London).

    Hi Welshlady,

Yep we've got her tracked in the 1891 and 1901 census now as Emily Adams. The problem has always been that we know she had brothers and sisters but we know none of their names. They were broken up and most found themselves living with grandparents but there wasn't room for Emily and so she was placed in an orphanage.

I think getting the birth cert is the best idea. With regards to her death do you agree that it is likely that we find her as having died aged 82 in the 3rd quarter of 1949 in Bromley? Much appreciated.

there is not a definite birth reg that i would say is her yet so i dont think you can send for any. i would send for her marriage certificate as above.

with regards to the death - it is a likely one but is hard to search through th bmd for those times to be absolutely certain. it depends on what info you know about her. you could send for certificate. would you know who should have registered the death or where she was living to see if it corresponds.

if you get the marriage cert we might be able to trace her parents and siblings in census etc through info on that. eg witness names, addresses, fathers name
