Hi I am trying to find the Parents of George Edward Hughes From Cardiff but went to Stoke on Trent in the late 1800s dont knoe aything else sorrey
Do you have a birth year??
My grandfather lived in Sydney street hanley stoke on trent. He married a Mary Ann Mcgarry April 1920,But trying to find his Parents Formaly from Cardiff only know his father Was also George Edward Hughes born late 1800s his wife was known as Emmie sorrey thats all i know
Thanks
What year and where was your grandfather born?
Would he be on the 1901 census????
Might not be he had a brother named Robert if that is any help i know it is a hard one but no one had anything to do with that side
I was wondering if george Edward (junior) married mary McGarry in 1920 then he would probably be aged abt 20 when he married? so he could be on 1901 census ???
Do you have the marriage cert of George and mary -if so that should give his age at marriage , his father's name and occupation -and sometimes witnesses are siblings
The problem is George Edward Hughes is not an uncommon name -especially in Wales -so we need as much info as possible to make sure we are following the correct line
Was george Edward junior b in Stoke ??
This looks like a possibility for mary McGarry in 1901
Living at 54 Sydney St Hanley there is Mary McGarry age 5mths with Parents james and Rose and siblings Thomas 6, Rose 4, martha 2 all b hanley
Then there is in 1901 at 36 peel St hanley
George E Hughes age 3 with parents George E and Mary and siblings Mary A 8, Robert E 5, and John 1 -they were all b Staffordshire
also Mother marys 2brothers and 1 sister were living with them
This looks like the marriage of George Edward (the father)
FreeBMD
1892 Stoke on Trent
Mary Conlon
George Edward Hughes
6b 312
there is a possibility that it was george Edward (the father) whose father was b in Wales
Do any of these names ring any bells?????
Yes they certainly do Would you be able to go further back if not dont worrey But thanks anyway
I think I can get further back - will work on it later tonight -so you may have more news by tomorrow
If we have the correct george Edward -it looks like mary would be his step mother

so it looks like George's mother must have died and his father remarried
have not found William in 1871 yet -so don't know what mother's name will be
