Thread: James Fitzgerald b. 9 Apr 1861

Any information for James Fitzgerald b. 9 Apr 1861 d. 26 Feb 1947 of England and his mother Catherine Fitzgerald of Ireland.

Catherines maiden name may be Twist and she had a sister named Elizabeth (Eliza) who married a John Westhead.



A known address of James Fitzgerald was 70 Roscommon Street, Everton, Lancashire, England. He married Alice (Lord) Cutts of Liverpool, b. 18 Feb 1865 d.8 June 1937.



James changed his last name to Westhead when he came to America, so it is very difficult to find any information on him.



His mother may have been married twice. First to Michael Moahoney on 25 Dec 1848, and second to William Hall. Both marriages took place at St. Peters Church. The first wedding was witnessed by her sister and brother in law, James and Eliza Westhead. I'm not sure where the surname Fitzgerald came from.



I did find a Christening record for James John Fitzgerald for 25 April 1860 which listed only his mother Catherine Fitgerald.

Can you clarify a few things please? When approx did James emigrate to America? When was his address Roscommon Street? You've written Alice (Lord) Cutts, was Lord her middle name, or was this her 2nd marriage and her birth name was Lord and previous marriage name Cutts? Why do you think Catherine MAY have been married twice? Also why do think her maiden name MAY have been Twist? Lastly, when and where did James and Alice marry?

I've found this 1851 census........looks promising!!! Catherine Maney is probably Catherine Mahoney.......enumerators wrote what they heard.

Did Catherine marry William Hall in 1888? If not, do you know when they married?



Could Catherines birth surname have been Fitzgerald ? I ask, as there's a marriage in Liverpool 1848, for James Westhead and on the same page there's an Eliza Fitzgerald.
