Thread: Mary Ann Stevens-1871

Mary Ann Stevens born in Bermondsey Surrey 1828 shows up as a patient at Guys Hospital St Olave Southwark.Can anyone tell me what type of hospital is Guys and can they translate her condition from the census ?

Hi Ed,

Thomas Guy, MP, bible seller and governor of St Thomas', founded Guy's in 1721 as a hospital for "incurables". As Guy's expanded from its original 60 beds into a major hospital, it retained close links with St Thomas', particularly through the joint medical school that the hospitals shared.

The schools separated in 1825 and were reunited as the United Medical and Dental Schools in 1982. Guy's remains on its original site south of London Bridge.

I also had one in Guy's on the 1871 census. If no one picks this up I will look at the census later.

Mary Ann Edmonds(1828 Bermondsey)married Charles Stevens(Mar 1853 St Olave). I guess this not her if she is unmarried.
