Thread: am trying to find john sanford 1808

hi all i am trying to find john Sanford born c1808 he was married to Mary

hazelton on 24 Feb 1823 in Norfolk, i have found him on the 1841 census in

southwark London but i cant find a birth record for him any info would be gratefully

received thanks

How do you know that John Sanford b 1808 (remember ages might be rounded down in 1841) on 1841 census is the same chap who married in Norfolk?



You do realise that if he was really born 1808ish, he'd be 15 when he married in 1823? Legally possible, but rather unlikely.



Do you know where in Norfolk they married? Have you got birth details for Mary?

Freereg has a marriage in Wells next the Sea 27 Feb 1823 between Mary Ramm and John Howell, in which the witnesses are



Robert Skeet, Mary Ann Hazelton and John Sanfer [sic]

1841 Lemon Street, Southwark family is

John Sanford 35 smith not born in county

Mary 22 (says was born in county)

Mary 9

Alexr 1

There's a baptism for Mary Ann Sanford, parents John & Mary Ann, at St Saviour Southwark 08 JUL 1832

and same batch #C055183 also has baptism for Elizabeth, same parents, born 22 Sep 1834 bapt 12 Oct 1834.



I am wondering about this. I would have expected if John and Mary married 1823 they would have had more children than this, though of course they could be living elsewhere. Not convinced that the couple who married in Wells are the same as the ones here.

thanks For your help i do believe that Mary Ann Hazelton was born on board the HMS Glasgow (got this From another tree so may not be right)

The Freereg copy of marriage between John Sanfer and Mary Hazelton states Sanford as an alternative name and also names Robert Sanford as witness.

c1808 year of birth For John Sanford is a guess as worked out by 1841 census.
