Thread: Sarah Edmonds abt1818

I would like to find Sarah's siblings.

What I know about her is that she had a son John born out of wedlock 30 Jun 1841 whose father was a John Marvin.Sarah married Joseph Bayliss 13 Jun 1847 and the certificate stated her father was John Edmonds a bricklayer deceased.In the 1861,71and 81 census she is shown as being born in Bermondsey,Surrey.

There is an extracted record in the IGI showing a Sarah Edmonds baptised in 1818 Bermondsey with parents John Edmonds and Elizabeth.I think that this is my Sarah.There is also an extracted marriage record for a John Edmonds and an Elizabeth Ellis 01 Oct 1789 St Clement Danes,Westminster who may be her parents.

Are my thoughts about her birth date and her parents logical and how do I find her siblings if any?

Is there any way to confirm John and Elizabeth Ellis are the correct parents of Sarah?

The 1789 marriage would be too early if the above are 'your' Sarah's family, as Elizabeth wasn't born until circa 1789.



I was hoping to find these folks in 1841 with husband/father, but sadly he's not with them so probably died before 1841.

I assume that the parish register would not have any additional info re parents since the IGI is an extracted record.

Probably not, but I doubt it's the right couple as a 1789 marriage would suggest the bride was born at the latest 1772, but probably earlier, and as Sarah was born 1818 that would make her mother at least 46, not impossible of course.



There are these marriages on the igi between a John Edmonds with wife Elizabeth.

So the question becomes how does one find the wifes maiden name when the marriage location is unknown and the parish record does not show it when the children where baptized?Oh and the husband died before the 1841 census and the widow and any children do not show up on it either.

I am open to suggestions.
